Operation Opportunity files, 1959-1964.

The collection consists of records of the Operation Opportunity program of the SRC from 1959-1964. For each state involved in the program there are questionnaires which record information on degrees of integration, organizations likely to be helpful or hostile, and names of individuals who might be willing to teach or support the desegregation of public accommodations. The collection also consists of reports prepared by Director Louis L. Mitchell, Jr. and some correspondence.

The Help Our Public Education (HOPE) project was established in 1958 by a group of community leaders and concerned citizens to disseminate information regarding school integration in Georgia.
